Play-Off Game 1: Giants vs. Packers 14 to 6
Friday night under the lights for the Play-Offs on the lower field. As we normally do, the team began with 2 laps around the main upper field. It is cold and my objective is to keep the girls heart-rate up to keep them warm. After praying for each girl, our plan for tonight was to go in as a team and play as hard as we could offensively. Our objective was to zone the fastest runner with our fastest runner and get possession of the ball as quickly as possible.
We won the coin toss and we began by receiving. Our strongest area is defense yet tonight was not our strongest night. We went forward with three good plays that have allowed us to move the ball and even, the opportunity of a touchdown - which Amanda caught and ran. We had incredible defense from Amanda, Diane, Mackenzie and Izabella - stopping plays. We lost possession of the ball 3x; they tripled teamed Amanda from Sam, which allowed two touchdowns. Throughout this game, even with 3 referees, there was a lot of holding by the 49ers - around the neck, two hand chest holds and back holds. This was repeatedly brought to each of the referees attention, yet nothing changed. Unfortunately, in the last quarter we had an injury - Izabella, while reaching the flag of a Packers receiver, fell due to a torn ligament in her knee. Coach Orlando recognized that Izabella wasn't getting back on her feet and brought it to my attention. While she went down, the opposing celebrated their touchdown. Again with this team, we see some unsportsmanlike behavior which the girls identified and we had to rise above the urge to retaliate. |

Game 9: 49Ers vs. Giants - 0 to 6
A brisk cold Sunday morning. Although I am not in agreement with playing football on Sunday, God was with us! A change in the offensive line allowed for us to move the ball and gain the advantage. This game we had Izabella, Diane, Cameran and Mackenzie on the line to assist with blocking while Hailey was the quarterback, Amanda and Ashley running the ball. We had an incredible interception by Amanda.
In the second quarter, we changed up our plays, Amanda was the quarterback allowing Hailey to be a wide receiver and making the next touchdown. Defense was hot this game with Izabella and Amanda leading in flags. |

Game 7: Giants vs. Steelers - 7 to 6
OMG! This game will be remember for two reasons: 1. we won and 2. Coach Andy lost his mind! There was an altercation with Coach Andy and one of the Ref's on the field. Its funny how the same play occurred just 2 downs prior on my team - yet there was no support from Coach Andy/Flag Commissioner when I questioned the call about the extra 5 yards to be allotted when a yellow flag was called on the play.
We saw more of Coach Andy's frustration each time that Izabella broke through the offense and stop the passing of the ball. Right behind Izabella was Amanda creating a "sandwhich" of defensive plays. On one play, took my advise to just stay up the middle and snatch an incredible flag. |

Game 5: Packers vs. Giants - 12 to 7
This was a tough game. During this game, there were holds, hits to face and unsportsmanlike conduct (laughing at the line that they were winning and hurtful comments). The Giants played a tough game, we almost had a touchdown by Ashley and Cameran but were incomplete; Amanda and Izabella played incredible "sandwich" defense.
The Giants are giants and ladies on the field. We have Lilly grab a flag so stealthy right up the middle. It was incredible! In the same hand, it is hard to understand all the different components of the game. Many understand the theory and plays I have tried to teach them, but it takes a bit of time to really comprehend when a team runs the clock and when taking a knee to end the game is a compliment. Although we have talked about these strategies, when the adrenaline is running and the fire has been lit, stopping and waiting while being laughed at is not an easy on-top of a defeat. |

Game 1: Steelers vs. Giants 7 to 0
Our first game was incredible! Our defense was strong and determined to go after the flags. The Steelers did their best to try and game yardage until the 4th quarter to get their first touchdown. There was a missed call on a ball that was dropped which should have been a dead ball instead it was picked up and considered a live ball taking the girls completely by surprise.
Everyone did an incredible job on the field - we had a great number of flags from more than half of the team. We had some of the positions changed through-out the game and others swapping to have all the girls play in the game. I will be doing a better job of play time, but I do need a favor, please remind the ladies on the side line that should not sit down with friends/family members since they should be walking/standing where the playing is occurring and being ready to go in the event I signal for them. All players should flags, cleats, mouth piece, all jewelry off and shirts tucked into their pants along with a playing spirit when they come to the field to practice or play. |
