A couple of you are wondering, "how am I going to learn all this technology and teach my lessons when I do not even know how to use my Mac or Windows?" I would like to share the work of a fellow student in our program who has taken this course. It was shared with me that she had never used iMovie before taking this course. She has given us permission to share her Digital Story and webpage. I hope it inspires you!

I was a little intimidated last week as we started to explore all of the various forms of technology available to us as educators. It really can be overwhelming! After doing a little research about digital storytelling and watching these videos, I don’t feel as nervous! Having a clear plan in place seems to be an important component to starting; however, I have a feeling once you see all the pieces come together it is going to be pretty awesome! I am looking forward to starting on my digital story! I have thought of so many ways this can be useful in my classes and I think my students will also enjoy it!

I thought this was a great example of Digital Storytelling. My own idea for this project different, but after watching this video, it sparked some ideas that I could try in the classroom. I loved how she used technology as a method to introduce a new unit and I feel as I could do the same. My students love watching videos (no surprise), but they are quick to pick up the main ideas and learning objectives from educational videos. For example my students have watched Tumblebook stories, Brainpop Jr. videos, and even an RSA style video I made as a quick math intervention. Technology can draw the students back into the classroom if you're finding students losing focus or interest at certain points of the day. I know in my classroom, after a morning without breaks, students are tired and they quickly lose focus by the afternoon. Using google slides to make presentations for math lessons has made a big difference in my teaching. I'm hoping to make the presentations more interactive by incorporating Nearpod. This can happen after learning how to use it efficiently. I'm glad to see that Ms. Kelly took the leap into incorporating technology into the classroom and I hope to continue to do the same.

Richard I agree that this video sparked ideas for my digital storytelling project as well. I really enjoyed how she introduced a new unit with this and I think this would also be a great assessment for the end of a unit to have the students participate in to see what they learned from a unit. My students thoroughly enjoy technology as well so why not use it it to make assessment more engaging.

After looking into digital story telling and watching the videos on your blog I felt a lot more comfortable with digital story telling and am looking forward to making my own! I plan to have my students create their own short story for our literary elements and short story unit that we are in. But this video also showed me that digital story telling could also be used to introduce a new unit or topic which got me thinking that I could also use digital story telling as a hook or introduction to a lesson.
